TPSPS - Policies & Procedures

The following is a list of my companies' policies and procedures. They are published here to avoid any misunderstandings or surprises. I want my clients to be as fully informed as possible. It is long but important, please read it carefully. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask.

My clients are very selective about who comes into their home and cares for their pets and I absolutely love that as I am also very selective about who my company accepts as clients. TPSPS does not discriminate as to size, race, breed, creed, color nor lifestyle or religion of its clients or their humans. We will care for pets that are on the raw food diet as well as ones whose pet parents avoid over-vaccination. We do not provide minimal life care we provide quality of life care and must visit your pets everyday.

1. Always confirm your reservation with me directly. I can not accept a message left by phone or e-mail as an actual reservation. You will need direct confirmation by me that I have received and confirmed your request. This is to prevent pets being left alone because of a missed message or human error with starting/ending dates.

2. When you make an advanced reservation for a pet sit (does not apply to dog walk/playtimes or regularly weekly visits). I will re-confirm the dates of service 24-48 hours ahead of time. If you do not hear from me, you must call or email me and reconfirm the dates. This is very important! We are all human and there could have been a miscommunication on either side. I do not want any pets to suffer because of lack of our communicating.

3. Remember to call me upon your return from a trip. Otherwise I will continue visiting to ensure the well-being of your pets. Additional visits will be added to your scheduled visits at $5 above your regular rate. Please call/email at any hour or leave a voice message that you have returned before I leave on my next round of visits.

4. Cancellation of daily dog walks must be done before 7:30 a.m. If you don't let me know early enough and I do come to your house you will be charged whether I walk your dog or not.

5. Visits are scheduled between the hours of 7:30 AM. and 8:00 PM. I will ask you for a preferred time but it will be used as a time frame. I may come up to an hour before or after depending on my daily schedule. Daily schedules take many things into consideration including the location of visits and types of pets being watched. Pets receiving medication and inside only dogs get first priority. Visit times are much easier to work with for 3 visits-a-day dogs.

6. In the event of extreme weather I will get to your pet as soon as it is safely possible.

7. I cannot be held liable for free roaming outdoor cats in the event of injury, illness, loss or death. For their safety it is strongly advised that they remain inside during your absence. All dogs are required to be on a leash when outside their human's property.

8. I will accept limited clients who use invisible fencing. They must be aware of all the risks involved: fences or collars may malfunction, your dog may be so excited or frightened they accept the electric jolt and cross the fence any way and are lost. The electric fencing does not prevent other animals or thieves from entering your yard and possibly harming/stealing your dog. Insurance will not cover any incidents involving invisible fencing where dogs are left unsupervised. I will worry for the entire assignment and cannot spend time looking for your dog, until my other scheduled pets have been cared for.

9. It is the client's sole responsibility to pet proof any areas of the home or property to which the pet has access. This includes thoroughly inspecting fences, gates and latches. The pet sitter has no liability for any injuries the pet may sustain while alone at home or in the yard. I am not liable for any property damage caused by your unsupervised pet.

10. I adjust the heat or A/C in your house if the health of your pet is being affected.

11. Please notify me of any other person having access to your home while you are away. This is very important and includes friends, relatives, children home from school, cleaning service or anyone else that could be entering your house while you are gone. For my safety and for the protection of your home I will be calling the police upon finding anyone else in your home.

12. In the event of a personal emergency, illness or injury to me I will try to arrange for another qualified individual to fulfill the responsibilities set forth in the service agreement.

13. It is recommended that you inform your veterinarian that you are using this pet sitting service and check veterinary policy for payment. I may need information from your Vet that will not be released unless you advise them. All emergency veterinary charges will be the full responsibility of the client. Client will be billed $30 an hour for emergency trips to the vet and wait time.

14. Payment is due at the beginning of service. Payment can be left on the counter along with your cell number, destination and that number when you leave. There are no refunds for early returns but credits toward future service may be issued. A $10 late fee will be added to any bill for added service, which is not promptly paid upon your return. Returned checks are subject to a $ 35 surcharge.

15. During non-holiday periods cancellations must be made 48 hours before first scheduled visit or a cancellation fee of $25 will charged. If only one visit was originally scheduled then the charge will only be the cost of the visit.

16. There is a $5 per visit charge for the following holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. A $50 nonrefundable deposit is required to guarantee reservations for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Any holiday surcharge will go directly to the sitter caring for your pets on that holiday, as will any tips or gifts.

17. Please double check any key you give me, especially if it's new, to make sure it works. I need 2 keys to your home. I will accept garage door openers or codes but must also have a key to the house in case of power outages or malfunctions. Even if pets are not in the house I must have access for safety purposes and emergencies.

18. After your visits are completed, keys can be secured for future service or returned to you. If I keep your keys you will be all set for future visits (comes in handy if you accidentally lock yourself out). If I return your keys there is a $15 fee for all future pick up and drop off of keys.

19. I do not do every other day visits. All pets in my care must be seen at least once a day. I am not comfortable with not checking on a pet at least once in 24 hours. I care too much about these pets to take any chances. All dogs must be seen a minimum of 2 times per day for drop in visits. Crated dogs must be seen at least 3 times per day. That is only an hour and a half of freedom out of 24.

20. All pets in your home are considered to be under my care, unless other approved arrangements have been made. I need to know they are there and make sure they are ok.

21. I try to take a picture of each pet for my web page or lost pet posters. If you don't want photos posted on my web page let me know.

22. Please make your reservations early. I can only take a limited number of pets. I will do my best to accommodate emergency last minute plans but I can't promise I'll be available. I won't overbook or squish someone in. That would not be fair to the pets already scheduled. I do notify clients well ahead of time when I will be unavailable.

23. Due to liability, my safety and my insurance coverage I don't job share with friends, neighbors or extended family members except under extenuating pre-approved circumstances.

24. A normal visit is between 20 and 30 minutes. Longer visits can be arranged for an additional fee.

25. I need to know if your dog, cat or bird bites so I can make adjustments. According to GA Law, all dog bites must be reported. If a pet is aggressive and a danger to others, or myself I reserve the right to refuse service.

New Clients
Please call and book an initial consult at least a few weeks before your intended trip. No pet sitting or dog walking can be done until we have met and all paper work has been filled out and your account set up. New client consults are scheduled around my pet sitting appointments and can't be set up at the last minute. Both parties must be happy with all arrangements and it is best to leave time to set up alternate care in case things don't work out.

I cannot offer discounts on pet sitting visits. I love pets and I love spending time with them but I also have to balance that with what my time is worth to me in regards to my family and my need to make a living. Some people expect a discount if they need visits 3 or 4 times a day. I agree that it does get expensive but I am spending the same amount to get to your home and providing the same quality of care. I am reserving that time for you and committing to you that I will be at your home caring for your pet.

Some visits may be on a nice, sunny, summer day others may be in the middle of a thunderstorm, during a heat wave, early on a freezing winter morning or during a ice storm. Pet sitting is a luxury service and will not be appropriate for everyone. Personalized pet sitting is often cheaper than boarding if you have multiple pets, it is possibly more expensive if you have one pet and need multiple visits a day. Comparing pet sitting to boarding is like comparing a cold outdoor shower with a nice warm bubble bath.

While I chose to start this business because I love pets, and I have a natural affinity with them. I also started it to earn a living. This is my job. I have bills and overhead business expenses to cover to allow me to stay in business. So while I would love to help you out, I just can't give discounts. I hope you'll understand.

It is recommended that you make holiday bookings EARLY. This also goes for school vacation weeks. Assignments are first come, first served and I can only take a certain number of clients. A $50 nonrefundable deposit is required for all Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year reservations. There is no refund for early return but credits may be issued for future service.
